The magazine in question is MOMS & KIDS. A not so popular mag I presume. Just coz I dont read it. Hehehe. Anyway highway. I know a mom who submitted her kid's photos for an article entitled, "Absolutely Loving Mom". Cutie pa naman the pics. Syempre, hoping siya it'll come out on that mag, national yun. She did get confirmation from the management that the photos will be used for a certain article but no mention of the title. Imagine the mom's excitement and anticipation and Im pretty sure she has made chika chika to everyone she knows! I know I would have. And so the issue comes out. To her horror, she finds her kid's pic featured on the article of "Fetal Alcohol Syndrome". ????????? The mom goes ballistics! I know I would have! She contacted the management and sortta complained. This is the email from the magazine:
from Melaniedear ms. maryann: i am sorry that you felt that way. Most of the photos we used in our magazines do not really reflect the condition of the children used except when they are personal articles written like those of Mac and Me and that of Ms. Ditas Martelino. We do not find it offensive, in fact, in our industry, the advertising agency, when they saw the fotos, they find the babies cute. This is also one way of advertising the children. The advertisers know that the photos there do not reflect the condition of the children. We just wanted to show them the pool of babies and children we have that whenever they need talents, we can be of help. No offense meant. We already helped some mothers whose children were recommended to our clients. But that is as far as we go. The mothers and the clients only meet thru us but we do not meddle. That is why , we selected the very cute and clear fotos. We receive a lot of photos every day, but not all of them land in our magazines. We screen them too in order to help the mothers. Again, sorry if we offended you. We have been in this business for 9 years going on ten next year and this is the only time that we received a complaint from a mom.and from Rodgiedear maryann: please send us another photo , we will put them sa absolute love ng december issue and sa cute babies ng december din. ihahabol namin. melanie already emailed to you. hope you can send early.
Another mother was devastated to see her kid's photo under the article "How to Care for a Child with Special Needs like Autism". And she got the same reply from the management.
So I ask, where do we find justice concerning this matter? You dont actually have to be a mother to be affected by this. You only have to know the mother of these kids. Wouldnt you be shocked to see you friend's kids on those articles? The magazine refuses to make an apology, a disclosure na lang daw on their next issue, this November or December yata. So sad. Stupid magazine.
